Chances are you consider yourself a cat or dog person, whether you own a pet or not. Research shows that your preference for one animal or the other reveals a little bit about your personality! Over 62 percent of American households own a pet and the two most popular are dogs and cats! Studies show that we tend to gravitate toward the animals we were raised with, but other factors such as age and living space also play a role.

Younger people with families tend to have dogs that their kids can play with, older couples and single people tend to have lower maintenance pets like cats. A study at the University of Texas shows that dog people are usually more outgoing and agreeable than self proclaimed cat people. Cat people are usually more creative and adventurous, but also more likely to have anxiety.

Dog people are 30 percent more likely to live in a rural area, whereas cat people are 29 percent more likely to live in an urban area.  These are just a few fun facts about both sides of the spectrum in animal companionship!
