The Miami-Dade Animal Services and The Cat Network Inc. are teaming up with the Humane Society of Greater Miami to hold their first ever ASPCA Mega Match-A-Thon. This is a 24 hour marathon where hundreds of deserving animals will be available for adoption! 

The marathon will take place TODAY- Friday, March 30^th at 11:59 pm to Saturday, March 31^st at 11:59 pm at Tropical Park, located at 7900 Bird Road. Miami-Dade is one of the 55 communities that have received grant funding to participate in this nationwide event. 

The American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has granted almost $500,000 to support large-scale adoption events like this marathon. All of the Mega Match-A-Thons occurring throughout the country will all take place on the same day. 

The mission of ASPCA is to get the community closer together and to spread awareness of the large population of homeless pets. The mission of this event is to get all of these pets a home!

Miya: The Bravest Cat In New Mexico!

Earlier this month, Margaret Page and her cat Miya were found starved and near frozen in an isolated region of New Mexico (durangoherald.com).

The two were reported missing by family members on February 14^th after what seemed to be a routine trip in the wilderness. According to search crew leader David Kuthe, 41-year-old Page is an experienced backpacker -- based on the hiking shoes she was wearing and the minimal food (bag of pretzels) she had brought (durangoherald.com). 


Page was found dangerously malnourished, but her cat seemed to be in stable condition. New Mexico State Police Search and Rescue Incident Commander Marc Levesque said, “Her cat was in better shape than she was… her cat was also hunting,” (durangoherald.com). 

The pet owner was alert and articulate once she arrived at the Gila Regional Medical Center, and was reunited with cat Miya soon after. Page treated herself to a night at a Silver City Hotel following her check out at the hospital (durangoherald.com).
