Canines: The Four Legged Security Squad!

As London gears up for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad, the country’s security prepares with a fiercer and furry security team, canines! 

 

That’s right! British Transport Police across London will be walking around with Labradors and other passive and friendly dogs with a keen sense of smell. The dogs will be used to find bombs and other explosive devices in order to keep athletes, officials, and audiences’ safe throughout the games (msn.com). 
 

 For the last decade, London’s mass transit systems have been attacked by terrorists. One of the most popular acts of violence came soon after the city had won the bid for the Olympics in July of 2005. The incident marked the worst peacetime attack in history, with four suicide bombers and 52 commuters killed (msn.com).

Superintendent Philip Trendall of the British Transport Police’s Counter Terrorism Support Unit says, “(The dogs) are a tool … effective across a range of activities – reassurance, engagement with the public and detection – that’s why they’re attractive to us,” (msn.com).

While an exorbitant amount of potential dangers from al-Qaida, right-wing extremists, and Northern Ireland militant are being sniffed out, the public will find cheer and assurance in the official dogs (msn.com).
