Earlier this month, Margaret Page and her cat Miya were found starved and near frozen in an isolated region of New Mexico (durangoherald.com).

The two were reported missing by family members on February 14th after what seemed to be a routine trip in the wilderness. According to search crew leader David Kuthe, 41-year-old Page is an experienced backpacker -- based on the hiking shoes she was wearing and the minimal food (bag of pretzels) she had brought (durangoherald.com).

Page was found dangerously malnourished, but her cat seemed to be in stable condition. New Mexico State Police Search and Rescue Incident Commander Marc Levesque said, “Her cat was in better shape than she was… her cat was also hunting,” (durangoherald.com).

The pet owner was alert and articulate once she arrived at the Gila Regional Medical Center, and was reunited with cat Miya soon after. Page treated herself to a night at a Silver City Hotel following her check out at the hospital (durangoherald.com).
