Tips for Traveling with your Pet!

ALLPET.COM

So I hear that you are planning a trip to Hawaii with your bull dog Broody but are a little nervous about how it will affect Broody. Obviously you haven’t taken him on an airplane and your fears are understandable. But trust me, with the tips that I have for travelling with your pet, the trip to Hawaii will be all sun and play!

Although you may be aware of this, it is very important to do a few things before you buy your airline tickets.  Ask the airline about their policy on carrying pets aboard with you and in case you cannot what are the restrictions on transporting your pet below the cabin. Take a moment to ask if they have any special health & immunization requirements. Finally don’t forget to inquire about pet carrier dimensions, specifications and additional requirements.
It is time for you now to take Broody to the vet. We want to ensure that he is strong enough to handle the travel in his carrier and possibly away from you. Your vet will be able to tell you if his breed is capable of being on a flight. On approval ask the vet to issue a health certificate for your pet which should within ten days of your departure.

At this point you will have ironed out all the requisites in order to purchase that airline ticket and start planning the trip. Try to select non-peak, direct flights which means less passengers, more space and avoidance of unnecessary stress for both you and beloved Broody. Select an airline that can regulate temperature extremes to make your pet comfortable below cabin.

Finally here are some little tips that will dispel that nervousness and make your pet’s trip safe and stress free:
  • Try to be on the same flight as your pet. Plus notify the airline crew that your pet is on the flight for precautionary measures and ask if you can watch him/her get loaded/unloaded below the cabin.
  • Try to be early for the flight so that the unnecessary stress of rushing can be avoided. If you are calm, Broody will be calm too.
  • Get the pet carrier in advance. This way your pet will get familiar with the carrier. You could include a personal item in there that will make it easier for him/her. Also label the carrier with your information, address, destination country and contact details
  • Don’t forget to trim Broody’s nails so that they don’t get caught anywhere. Ensure that his collar has all your contact details.
  • Finally bring Broody’s photo and a leash on you
  • Oops sorry, one last thing don’t feed him for four to six hours before the flight. A little water can be given and you could add a few ice cubes in a collapsible travel bowl secured within his carrier.

Now that you have all this down, I promise you that both you and Broody will become seasoned travelers in no time. And if you need any more information on traveling with your pet feel free to get in touch with me. Airlines Changing Policies on Flying With Pets!

Many American air carriers including Delta airlines are changing their policies for pets on their aircrafts. Reason being is that there has been an increase in air-travel-related pet deaths, causing pet lovers to try and take action.

Although airlines are taking precaution on behalf of pets, for pet lovers, this may mean it may become more expensive to fly with a pet and slightly more complicated! One change Delta has made was last month they announced pets would no longer be carried as cargo or checked baggage on any flights on the Boeing 767.

Delta reported that they contacted their customers to notify them of the changes and let them know about the other alternatives they would be offering from here on out.

What do you think about these changes? Do you fly with your pets often? Let us know on our Facebook page linked HERE

New Safety Proposal For Pets On Flights!

ALLPET.COM

The Transportation Department wants to make a change! The department wants to expand the reporting of incidents when pets are lost, injured or killed on an airline flight. Presently, only the 15 largest airlines report when animals are involved in an accident.

With a new rule that may be put into action, all airlines with a 60 seat plane would have to begin reporting all incidents that pets are involved in. This would be about 36 airlines!

Many pet lovers are pushing for this rule in hopes that it would help all animals to be transported safely.

What do you think about this new rule? Would you be in support of it? Let us know your thoughts on our Facebook page linked HERE

Do You Travel With Your Cat? Read Here And Find Out Which Airlines Are Banning Cats!

ALLPET.COM

Air Canada Jazz flights will not be accommodate guests with cats on board anymore after a government agency overseeing traveler complaints ruled last week. Reason being is there are too many passengers with severe cat allergies!

The decision of the Canadian Transportation Agency will be banning cats on its Dash 8-100/300 aircraft when a customer with cat allergies gives 48 hours’ notice before traveling.  The company was unsuccessful in the past in their first proposal of a “first come, first-served policy.” This policy read that if a person travelling with a pet cat already had a reservation on the flight, the customer with a cat allergy disability would be offered a spot on another flight.

On other aircrafts with airlines such as Air Canada Jazz,Air Canada and WestJet it is unnecessary to ban passengers with a cat allergy because larger aircrafts are equipped with air circulation and ventilation systems using high efficiency particulate air filters that provide 100 percent unrecirculated fresh air!
